Good news for Alicia Sacramone and Team USA! According the The Boston Globe, Sacramone's recovery is ahead of schedule. As Gymnastike reported from Tokyo, Sacramone was injured during a training session just two days before competition at the 2011 World Championships. Doctors confirmed that it was a torn achilles tendon and she flew back to the US for surgery. 

It has now been almost two months since the injury and Alicia plans to transition from her walking boot to a regular shoe next week. She has been staying in shape with upper body conditioning and hopes to return to full training and routines by February. Sacramone's coach, Mihai Brestyan, explains that, "Alicia is mentally very tough. She has the goal. She wants to go to the Olympics and get her medal." The resilient Olympic veteran has successfully overcome injury in the past and her leadership for Team USA is unmatched. 

The soon to be 24-year-old states that after she came to terms with the recent injury, "There wasn't a question of whether I wanted to come back. It was, 'Can I be ready in time?' "

The 2012 USA Olympic Trials are scheduled for June 28 - July 1st in San Jose.
