Kayla Hoffman of Alabama wins the 2011 Honda Award

Kayla Hoffman
, a senior all around gymnast on the University of Alabama's 2011 NCAA national champion gymnastics team, has won the 2011 Honda Sports Award in gymnastics, designating her as the nation's top collegiate female gymnast. The award puts Hoffman into the running for the College Woman Athlete of the Year award.

Hoffman won the Honda award over three other excellent nominees: Michigan senior Kylee Botterman, UCLA senior Brittani McCullough and Penn State sophomore Sharaya Musser.

Kayla Hoffman has had a remarkable senior season at Alabama. As a team captain she led the team to the 2011 SEC Conference title, NCAA Regional title and NCAA National title. Individually she was named SEC Gymnast of the Year, won the NCAA Regional All Around title and finished 2nd All Around at the NCAA National Championships.

Prior to Alabama, Hoffman was an elite gymnast and trained under Diane Farrell at Rebound Gymnastics in New Jersey. She was a two year member of the USA National team. Hoffman was a solid contributor for Alabama all four years of her collegiate career but 2011 was by far her best.
