Uchimura Dominates and US Men Earn Bronze at 2010 Japan Cup

The Japanese men and the Russian women dominated the competition at this weekend's Japan Cup. The meet consisted of a 3-up, 3-count team competition and all around finals.

On the men's side

Japan easily won with 276.10 points, Germany took 2nd (266.90), and the American men took 3rd (265.40).

2009 World Champion Kohei Uchimura continues to set himself apart in the all around. He put up a beastly 93.45 to win. In 2nd was Koji Yamamuro with a 91.100. Check out this incredible yurchenko 2.5. You need to see this:

The 2 American representatives in the All Around were University of Michigan gymnast & 2010 NCAA All Around Champion Chris Cameron and University of Illinois gymnast Paul Ruggeri. Cameron placed 9th with an 86.950 and Ruggeri finished 11th with 86.40 points. Though this meet did not have event finals, University of Oklahoma gymnast Alex Naddour posted the highest pommel horse score of the team final, 14.75. Here is Paul's high bar set from Japan:

On the women's side:

The competition was much weaker and the Russian women were clearly the dominant team. Ksenia Afanasyeva won the All Around with 58.35 and Koko Tsurimi of Japan was 2nd with 57.75.

But the most excitement on the women's side is for a new skill performed by Tatiana Nabieva - a toe-on, layout tkatchev! Check it out at 6:20 in this video:
