Routines to Watch for at 2010 NCAA's: VAULT

The 2010 NCAA Championships are just a few days away and as you get ready for the Championship coverage here on gymnastike, I'll be doing a preview of routines to watch for on each event at NCAAs. Today we'll focus on vault. The majority of the girls will be competing yurchenko fulls. Unlike the other event finals, vault finals are always interesting in that you must compete 2 vaults in the finals after training and compete one vault all year in most cases.

Here are some of the top vaults to watch for at this year's NCAA's:

Vanessa Zamarripa of UCLA competes a beautiful yurchenko full:

If you remember, last season Vanessa made the NCAA vault event final but didn't have a second vault so just competed a yurchenko layout. This summer, she learned a Podkapayeva vault:

Brandi Personett of Penn State competes a yurchenko 1.5 and has even scored a couple 10's on vault this year. She confirmed in this interview that she's been training a double twisting yurchenko for event finals (and for a possible elite comeback)! Here is a 9.9 1.5 from earlier this season:

Brandi's former club teammate, Susan Jackson of LSU, is also one to watch for on vault. She's currently ranked first on vault with a 9.906 average. She competes yurchenko full and then always pulls out a nice 1.5 for the final.

Sarah Shire of Missouri is currently ranked 10th on vault. She started out the season competing a piked Podkapayeva, but told us in this interview that it wasn't scoring as high as she hoped so went back to her yurchenko full. Either way, she'll have two 10.0 SV vaults for the final. Here's a look at her piked Pod vault from earlier this season:

Freshman Natalie Beilstein of Michigan hasn't cracked the top 10 vault rankings just yet, but she competes a really nice yurchenko 1.5. This vault from their March 12th meet hosting Georgia scored a 9.95:

if ((navigator.userAgent.match(/iPhone/i)) || (navigator.userAgent.match(/iPod/i)) || (navigator.userAgent.match(/iPad/i))) {$("#display_video").html('');}

Kyndal Robarts of Utah has been on fire with her Omelianchik vault this year, averaging a 9.896. This vault scored a 9.95:

Then there's Erin Davis of Nebraska, currently tied for 3rd in the national rankings. Erin competes a yurchenko full and scored a perfect 10.0 for this vault. Check out the height and distance she gets on it!
