No. 1 UCLA hung on to beat No. 18 Kentucky on Friday at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, but it wasn't easy. 

Despite one of the best pitchers in the country in the circle, Megan Faraimo, the Wildcats (9-2-1) put the tying run at the plate after some sloppy defense put two runners on base. But Faraimo, who leads the nation in strike outs and wins, picked up the first UCLA (15-0) save of the season in a 6-3 victory. 

Faraimo, who threw a no-hitter on Thursday, struck out two in the top of the seventh and the Bruins won their first of two games on Friday.

Who Is Mary Nutter?

Mary Nutter was an All-American softball player and a pioneer in the sport. 

She was a coach at Pittsburgh State and was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1988 and the National Fast Pitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1997.

Nutter died in 2012.
