Three Gymnasts Dismissed From Georgia After 2017 Season

Georgia juniors Natalie Vaculik and Jasmine Arnold and sophomore Caroline Bradford were dismissed from the Bulldogs' gymnatics team on Friday, according to a report by the UGA student-run newspaper, the Red and Black, and confirmed by head coach Danna Durante.

An end-of-season media availability scheduled for Friday morning was cancelled, but Durante gave a statement to the newspaper on the dismissal of the three gymnasts:

The exact reasons [for the gymnasts no longer being on the team] are confidential," Durante said. "They are great kids. Dismissal makes them sound like a problem, which they weren't.
Vaculik was a mainstay on bars in 2016 as a sophomore, competing in every meet on the event. She also competed nine times on vault and 10 times on beam. In 2017, she competed twice on bars, scoring a 9.9 against Kentucky and a 9.75 at the Mardi Gras Invitational. She missed some of the 2017 season due to illness.

Arnold and Bradford were both walk-ons to the team and did not see any competitive action this season.

The Gymdogs are coming off a tough performance at the 2017 NCAA Championships, in which they finished sixth in semifinal two with a 195.8 and landed in 12th overall. Jerry Anthony, a chairman of the team's banquet and past president of the Ten-0 Booster Club, said the coaches have postponed the team's banquet until August. Anthony said that decision was made on Thursday due to what the coaches called a "restructuring of the team."

Update 7/19/17:
Under Courtney Kupets' leadership, all three athletes were given the chance to rejoin the program. Vaculik and Arnold chose to rejoin the team while Bradford has decided to shift her focus to her studies.
