Former Soviet gymnast Olga Korbut has parted ways with much of her Olympic memorabilia after an online sale by Heritage Auctions this past weekend.

The 61-year-old sold 32 items in total, including several gold medals from the 1972 Munich Games and 1976 Montreal Games as well as leotards and miscellaneous awards. The most profitable item was her 1972 team gold medal, which sold for $66,000. She received a total of $333,500 for all of the memorabilia.

Korbut, a Belarus native who moved to the United States in 1991, currently lives in Scottsdale, Arizona, where she is retired and coaches occasional private gymnastics lessons. Russia's Gazeta.ru news reported that she has been facing financial difficulties.

Korbut countered that report on Twitter:

A report by USA Today noted that Korbut said she was selling the medals to give the world a chance to share in her glory.

This is Olympic history, and I would like to share with the whole world," Korbut told USA Today. "They helped to make it history and make it live forever. This is how I wanted to share with the people.
