Recruiting 101: How To Find Your Soulmate College
Most parents hire JH Consulting services to help them with the gymnastics recruiting process, but the goal is to find the right fit both academically and athletically. There is nothing better as an advisor than to hear one of my clients send me a text saying, "I love it here. I fit in so well and can't wait to come to this college."

Did you know that one in three first-year college students do not return for his or her sophomore year of college? Below are some things to consider as you look for the best fit for you:

Academics

Does the college you're considering offer classes and learning opportunities that interest you? You usually do not have to declare a major until your junior year, but you will be more engaged with your classes if you are excited about the college.

Learning Style

Do you prefer informative lectures or lively discussions? You want to be challenged! Research courses and program descriptions.  Review professors and go to some classes on your unofficial visits.

Admissions

Assess your chances of admission. This can be a great way of identifying if you are a strong fit. Your GPA, caliber of your high school classes, and test scores are the most important element of your college application. Check out the average numbers of the most recent incoming class and see if you measure up.

Culture

Do you want a big, small, urban, or a rural school? A big football team or a major theater production? Every college has its own specific vibe. Be sure to consider the personalities, politics, and interests of student body. Also, weigh the quality of life, dorms, food, and other facilities on campus.
