The Broncos are working to achieve what has never been done in Boise State gymnastics history: qualify to NCAA Nationals.

With an RQS of 196.365, Boise State is currently ranked 12th in the nation. For a team that has never qualified to Nationals, the possibility of reaching a once far-off goal is becoming more and more of a reality. It has been an incredibly exciting process for the Broncos, especially for the seniors who have worked hard to create a culture of excellence over their four years.

Senior all-arounder Krystine Jacobsen is stoked about the season. She attributes much of the team’s success to the strong chemistry they’ve created as well as focusing on details and technique.

One thing our coach always says: ‘If the technique is right, then the routine will be right.’

That mantra seems to be working quite well for Jacobsen. A few weeks ago she scored a 9.975 on bars against Ohio State for this jaw-dropping routine:

Jacobsen loves the challenge.

Gymnastics is about being perfect and each week you go in and you try to figure out how to reach that 10.0. You put in all that hard work, and to perform the way that you’ve been working is just absolutely phenomenal.

She knows the future is bright, even for the youngsters on the team. Jacobsen has been very impressed by the freshmen who have made their mark early on in their careers. One of them being Shani Remme who has been a solid standout for the Broncos all season.

Remme’s favorite event is floor, where she said she can really have fun and truly express herself. But she is also remarkable on beam, showing no sign of 'freshman nerves.'

Co-head coach Neil Resnick said this year’s success is rooted in last year’s summer and preseason training. The team really focused on addressing weaknesses, developing leadership, and building on their progress every single day.

It has led to rock-solid performances week in and week out, such as senior Maddie Krentz's stunning work on floor:

Consistency has been the key, which is what Resnick finds most impressive about the team. They have been notably consistent not only in meets, but also in practice—doing the routines they know how to do every day.

You look at our scores and there’s virtually no deviation. A few tenths here, a few tenths there, and it’s truly consistent. That goes back to how consistent you are in the gym.

Every person on the team has the same goal in mind: NCAA Nationals.

But they know it won't be easy.

Resnick said it’s important to first embrace what a challenge it will be to make their goal a reality. However, he truly believes that if the Broncos go into Regionals and execute like they have been all year, they could very well find themselves in Fort Worth, Texas come April 15th.

This is something that’s never been done here. So we’re going to go about trying to make Boise State history.
