The UCLA Bruins won their 2012 season opener with Utah by a very narrow margin, 196.075 to 196.025. They started with excellent routines on vault and bars including a 9.95 vault for Tauny Frattone, but struggle on beam. A clutch floor routine from Samantha Peszek held off the Utes.
