Doc Ali’s Tight Mind Monday 12-5-16: Dedication

With competition season approaching or actually here for many of us, this is the perfect Tight Mind Tool of the week: Dedication. The word dedication comes from the Latin root dedicatus and has two meanings that can be very helpful in strengthening our minds.

According to the dictionary, one definition is, "To devote wholly and earnestly toward a goal."

Here is our first Tight Mind Tip based on this definition:

1. This week, make your weaknesses stronger by rededicating yourself to that goal. Think of your greatest current weakness. It might be form, fear, or nutritional choices outside of the gym. Commit and rededicate your self to focus on improving that weakness. If you want to really take a risk, ask your coaches what they think you need to dedicate yourself to. Have your entire team make dedications and write them on the mirror in the gym. At the end of the week, notice how your weaknesses have improved.

Another definition of dedication is, "To set apart and consecrate (declare) to a sacred purpose."

Here is your Tight Mind Tip for this definition:

2. Every practice this week, pick one person, group, or cause to dedicate your practice to. It might be a sick relative, injured teammate, or your coaches! Write your dedication on your hand so you can see it through practice and keep it present. Share your dedication with your teammates and support each other. When you do this, it turns a normal workout into one with intense meaning which always makes it better!

It is so important to dedicate yourself fully to your goals and dedicate your practice to someone or something that is important to your heart. With true dedication fueling you, there is no limit to what you can achieve.
