The qualification round of the 2013 Anadia Cup  took place today in Portugal as athletes from around the world tried to secure a spot in the event finals. Six-time Olympian Oksana Chusovitina of Uzbekistan, qualified first into the vault finals with a score of 14.250. The 38-year-old continues to astonish gymnasts and fans around the world with her ageless gymnastics. 

2-time Olympian Jessica Lopez of Venezuelala, posted the highest score during the uneven bar qualification with a 14.575 followed by Lisa Hill of Germany, in second with a score of 14.500. Chunsong Shang of China, earned the top qualification score on balance beam with an impressive 15.00 followed by Romanian star Larisa Iordache with a score of 14.625. 

Olympian Diana Bulimar of Romania, earned the highest score on floor exercise with a 14.425. Bulimar had the highest degree of difficulty with a 5.900. Julie Croket of Belgium, followed in second with a score of 13.775.

In the men's qualification, Max Whitfield of Great Britain, performed the most difficult pommel horse routine in history with a rating of 7.3. Whitfield's routine earned a 15.400 and the top spot heading into the finals. Eddie Penev of the USA, earned the top score on floor exercise with a 15.175 followed by Diego Hypolite of Brazil, in second with a 15.125. Brandon Wynn of USA, qualified sixth to the ring finals with a score of 15.200.  Olympian and NCAA Champion, Sam Mikulak, had a great day and qualified to the vault,floor, parallel bar and high bar finals.

Today marked the first day of event finals at the 2013 Anadia World Challenge Cup in Portugal. Brazil earned two medals in the vault final as both Jade Barbosa and Adrian Gomes finished on the podium.  Barbosa won gold with an a 14.825 followed by Six-time Olympian Oksana Chusovitina of Uzbekistan, in second with a score of 14.512.  Gomes won the bronze with a 14.112. 

The men started their competition on the floor exercise with Diego Hypolito of Brazil, taking gold with a score of 15.375.   Mathias Fahrig of Germany, placed second with a15.175 followed closely by US Olympian Sam Mikulak, in third with a 15.100. Eddie Penev of the US, finished in sixth place with a score of 14.175. Penev, the top qualifier on floor, fell on his last pass (whip immediate triple twist) during the final. 

Anastasia Grishina of Russia, prevailed on the uneven bars with a score of 14.750. Grishina relegated Lisa Hill of Germany, the top qualifier, to second place with a 14.425. Chuson Shange of China, placed third with a score of 14.175. 

Jhony Perez of Columbia, edged out  the top qualifier, Max Whitlock of Great Britain, to win gold on pommel horse with a score of 15.2. During the qualification round, Whitfield performed the most difficult pommel horse routine in history with a 7.2 difficulty score. However, mistakes during finals cost Whitlock the gold. He took second with a score of 15.200.  Gustavo Simoes of Portugal, finished third with a 14.600. Arthur Zanetti of Brazil, took the gold on rings with a score of 15.8. Yan Mingyong of China, won the silver medal with a score of 15.750 followed by Federico Molinary of Argentina, in third with a 15.500

Anadia Cup: Day 2 Results

The 2013 Anadia World Challenge Cup concluded on Sunday in Portugal with an exciting final day of competition. Romania dominated the women's competition, winning three gold medals courtesy of 2012 Olympians, Larisa Iordache and Diana Bulimar

 Iordache impressed the judges on beam with her jam-packed routine that included two full twisting saltos (bhs tuck full and R/O layout full) and a difficulty rating of 6.9.  Iordache's score of 15.650 was enough to hold off the top qualifier, Chunsong Shang of China, who took silver with a score 15.150. Diana Bulimar of Romania, won the bronze medal with a score of 14.650.

The Romanian success continued on floor exercise as Iordache and Bulimar tied for first place, each earning a score of 14.650. Iordache's routine included a piked full-in and a quadruple turn. Bulimar showcased her powerful tumbling opening her routine with a huge double layout.  Chunsong Shang of China finished in third place with a score of 14.125. Shang opened her routine with a one and half through to triple twist immediate - punch front, and showcased her flexibility in her gorgeous leaps.

Enrique Sepulveda of Chile won the title on vault with a final score of 14.925 followed by Igor Radilov of Ukraine in second with a score of 14.837. The 2012 Olympic bronze medalist performed a gorgeous first vault (handspring double front-half) only to stumble badly on his second vault, a tsuk double pike. Diego Hypolito of Brazil won bronze with a score of 14.825. US Olympian Sam Mikulak tied for seventh place with Marius Berbecar of Romania. 

Anton Fokin of Uzbekistan placed first on parallel bars with a score of 15.575. Jossimar Moreno of Columbia won the silver with a score of 15.200 followed by Samuel Piasecky of Slovakia in third with a score of 15.100.

Sam Mikulak concluded his busy weekend by clinching the gold medal on high bar with a score of 15.275. Mikulak put an exclamation mark on his routine with a stuck layout double double earning a fist pump and a huge smile from the American. Angel Rivera of Puerto Rico took silver with a score of 14.60 and Igor Pakhomenko of Russia won the bronze with a 13.925.
