Aliya Mustafina
saved her best performances for last, winning two event titles at the 2012 Russian Cup and continuing to improve in the weeks remaining before the London Olympics.

Mustafina captured the bars title on Saturday, hitting a 7.0 difficulty routine for a 16.15, over a point ahead of the second-place gymnast.  She also posted the highest floor score of the weekend, a 14.7, to win a second title on Sunday.  On balance beam, Mustafina was on point, scoring 15.0 to finish second.

All-around winner Viktoria Komova won beam, scoring a confident 15.325 and finished second to Mustafina on bars (15.1) and floor (14.3).  Komova also showed a 7.0 bars routine, managing a 15.1 score even with a fall.

Two-time Olympian Anna Pavlova won vault, averaging 14.390 to best Tatiana Nabieva (14.15) and Anna Myzdrikova (13.8).  Nabieva also finished third on uneven bars (14.9).  London hopeful Maria Paseka again missed her Amanar vault, along with a double-twisting Yurchenko.

At the conclusion of the event, the list of Russian Olympic contenders was cut to eight gymnasts: Mustafina, Komova, Anastasia Grishina, Anastasia Sidorova, Paseka, Nabieva, Ksenia Afanasyeva and Yulia Inshina.
