Together we can battle Olympic withdrawals

Olympic gymnastics competition concluded last night, and it was a great night for the Americans! Shawn saved her best for last, and finally got gold on the beam in her last routine of these Olympic games. Nastia took the silver with yet another beautiful routine. But, I think the highlight of my night was Jonathan Horton on high bar. I always get so nervous when I watch high bar, and it definitely didn't help my nerves when Tim Daggett was talking about how Jonathan and coach Mark Williams decided to up his difficulty, even after a lot of the previous competitors had fallen and left the door open. I think I held my breath for his entire routine, but he was dead on every release move. It was awesome.

In my opinion, his routine was much better than China's Zou Kai and Horton deserved the gold. Kai beat him out by just 0.025 for yet ANOTHER Chinese victory. I'm sure Horton is kicking himself for not sticking his dismount like he did in the team final, even though I imagine it's pretty tough to stick a triple full dismount! Either way, he did an amazing job and the silver medal is a huge accomplishment.

Horton's silver brought the US medal count up to 10 medals in Beijing, a strong showing for USA Gymnastics. And amazingly, half of these medals belong to Nastia! She had an incredible Olympics and is now tied with Mary Lou Retton and Shannon Miller for most medals (5) in a single Olympics. She even beat her dad, Valeri, by one medal.

With the conclusion of this year's Olympic gymnastics, now is usually the time for us all to go into Olympic withdrawals, but not this year! I'll be running around the country getting interviews and videos with your Beijing heroes, and even our 2012 hopefuls, because it's not too early to get to know them! So when you're missing the Olympics and itching for some more gymnastics coverage, get your fix here! And as always, if you have any suggestions or there's anything in particular you'd like to see, feel free to let me know.
