Stellar Seniors - Georgia Dabritz, Utah

This week, our Stellar Senior is Utah Ute Georgia Dabritz. Georgia competes all around for Utah and is currently ranked #1 in the all around standings for NCAA with a 39.600.

Georgia is from Newburyport, Massachusetts and she previously trained at Ace Gymnastics under Laura Tebo. Before her collegiate days, Georgia was one of the most successful gymnasts in Massachusetts, earning her spot as the state all around, vault and beam champion in 2009, and again in 2011 (she also managed to gain the floor championship that year). She competed on the national stage at the Visa Championships in 2009 and 2010, and eventually she qualified for the J.O. National Team. Adding to her success in 2011, she became the J.O. all around, bars and floor champion that year.

Georgia’s first season at Utah was in 2012, and even though she was just a freshman, she still managed to score the team’s highest on floor and bars - a 9.975 and 9.95, respectively. Georgia, nicknamed “No Grips” Dabritz for choosing to forgo grips on bars, was the Pac-12 Champion and the NCAA regional champion on bars in her freshman year. She also placed 10th on vault in NCAA event finals.

Georgia only got better as the years went on. In her sophomore year, she scored her first 10.0 on bars in a meet against Florida, she was NCAA Regional Champion on bars and vault and 4-time All-American. She also tied for second with Bridget Sloan at bars finals at the NCAA Championships. In her junior year, she added to her perfect 10 count with a 10.0 on floor and an additional one on bars. She became Pac-12 Champion on vault, bars and floor and was a 5-time All-American that year. See the below video for her perfect 10 on bars at Pac-12 Championships.

Georgia is known for her clean execution as well as her power. Her floor routine is packed with some high-flying tumbling, including a triple twist (rare to see even at the elite level) and a piked full in. That power translates to vault as well, where she performs a 1 ½ twisting Yurchenko, often sticking the blind landing. Georgia’s skill in execution can be seen best on bars, where she hits handstands, points her toes and keeps her legs locked together to keep all of those extra tenths.

It’s clear that Georgia is off to a great start this year - we’re looking forward to seeing what the rest of the season will bring!
