15 Men Qualify For P&G Championships From National Qualifier At The USOC

15 Men Qualify For P&G Championships From National Qualifier At The USOC

Fifteen senior men earned berths to the 2015 P&G Gymnastics Championships, scheduled for Aug. 13-16 in Indianapolis, based on performances at the 2015 Men’s National Qualifier at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The junior division competition continues Sunday at 11 a.m. MT with technical sequences.
 
The field included gymnasts trying to qualify for the P&G Championships and others who were using the event as a tune-up for next month.  2012 Olympic all-around bronze-medalist Danell Leyva of Miami/Team Hilton, posted the highest score of the day at 89.950.  Chris Brooks of Houston/Team Hilton (Cypress Gymnastics), who qualified for the P&G Championships, was next at 89.250, and CJ Maestas of Corrales, N.M./U.S. Olympic Training Center, had the third top mark with 86.25.
 
The 15 men who advanced to senior competition at the P&G Championships were determined based performances at the Qualifier using the national Points Ranking System. Listed below, the number reflects the points from the ranking system.

Athletes qualified to the senior division at the 2015 P&G Championships in a variety of ways: senior National Team members following the 2015 Winter Cup Challenge automatically qualified to the championships; a minimum of 14 athletes qualified to the P&G Championships based on the national Points Ranking System from the National Qualifier; and the top six ranked all-around gymnasts who are U.S. citizens from among the top 12 all-around athletes at the 2015 NCAA Championships also qualified to the P&G Championships.
 
Juniors qualify in a similar fashion. The top 24 athletes from the 15-16 junior elite age division from the all-around finals at the 2015 Junior Olympic National Championships and the top 12 athletes from the 17-18 junior elite age division from the all-around finals at the 2015 Junior Olympic National Championships qualify to the 2015 P&G Gymnastics Championships. The top six age eligible juniors form the junior elite division at the 2015 National Qualifier will qualify using the rank order all-around results (optional + technical sequence score) with 15-16 and 17-18 age divisions combined also qualify. This will total approximately 42 athletes in two age divisions.
