DENVER -- University of Denver women's gymnastics assistant coach Linas Gaveika has been promoted to associate head coach, the Pioneers' head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart announced Friday.Gaveika will be the new DU associate head coach

"We are thrilled to announce Linas Gaveika as associate head coach," Kutcher-Rinehart said. "He has already made significant contributions to the team, and he embraces our philosophy of teamwork, character and excellence.

"He has the motivation, work ethic and passion to continue to advance our program. With the addition of Robert Ladanyi as assistant coach, we're excited to continue taking this program to the next level."

Gaveika has coached DU on vault and bars since becoming assistant coach in August 2012. Under his guidance, the team set a school record on vault with a 49.475 at the 2014 Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Championships. The Pioneers finished inside the top 25 on vault and bars in all three of his seasons.

"I am truly honored and humbled by the opportunity, responsibility and, most importantly, the trust head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart is giving me," Gaveika said. "I'm fortunate and thankful for the amazing support from our administration and staff. It's been a pillar in our day-to-day success.

"The future is bright for Denver Gymnastics, and I am very much looking forward to being a part of it."

Denver is coming off one of its most consistent and successful seasons in recent years, finishing No. 15 in the final team rankings for 2015, the Pioneers' highest final ranking since 2010. The Pioneers also advanced to their 17th consecutive NCAA Regionals with the program's third highest RQS (196.455) and never counted a fall.

Returning senior and two-time all-American Nina McGee (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished tied for second on floor at the 2015 NCAA National Championships, marking the 16th straight season in which at least one DU gymnast qualified to Nationals.

DU finished the 2015 season ranked inside the top 25 on all four events, including No. 12 on vault and No. 25 on bars under Gaveika's coaching. The team tied the second highest vault score (49.425) and the fourth highest bars score (49.325) during the season.

Completing the 2015-16 coaching staff is Robert Ladanyi, who was named as assistant coach in May. Denver will return 11 student-athletes for its 2016 campaign and will welcome four incoming freshmen.
