The October U.S. National Team Training Camp begins today at the Karolyi Ranch in Huntsville, Texas. There are 28 gymnasts in attendance for the five day camp, lead by National Team Coordinator Martha Karolyi. According to USAG, the goals of the camp are improving physical abilities, new skill acquisition, routine reconstruction for the 2015 season, all with an emphasis on dance training. There will also be informational sessions for athletes and coaching discussing trends in the Code of Points based on the recent World Championships.

 

The 2014 World Championships concluded just days ago in Nanning, China and the seven gymnasts who were on the gold-medal winning U.S. team will not be at this camp. Those gymnasts are Alyssa Baumann, Simone Biles, Madison Desch, Madison Kocian, Ashton Locklear, Kyla Ross, and Mykayla Skinner.

 

There will be some brand new faces at this camp as well as some returning faces including 2012 Olympic gold medalists Gabby Douglas and Aly Raisman. Douglas returned to National Team Training Camps this past June but for Raisman, this will be her first camp since the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
