Forging Her Path - Jazmyn Foberg

Jazmyn Foberg
is becoming a recognized name in the elite world after some eye-catching results during the 2014 season and she isn’t stopping yet.

She’s made huge improvements in the last year and has impressed a lot of people. At the American Classic, at the Karolyi Ranch in Huntsville, Texas, she placed first in all-around with a 55.550, and at the Secret Classic she placed fifth in the all-around improving her score to 56.150.

Although she landed a little short with a small hop forward on her Double Twisting Yurchenko, she scored a 14.40 and came third on vault at the Secret Classic. She definitely has the potential to score higher if she can improve on execution.

For a junior, her bars routine is impressive and packed with lots of skills. She showed huge fight when she managed to save her Ray by literally holding onto finger tips, and even took the risk of connecting it straight into her Pak at the Secret Classic. She scored 13.80 for sixth, and despite the minor hiccup during this routine, she hits her handstands with nice lines and she’s clean. She should be able to score above a 14.0 every time if all goes well.
Her beam routine is also loaded with skills and she’s got tremendous difficulty on floor - a double layout opening and full-in tuck third pass. She has that physical element of consistency and reliability.

Last year Foberg changed gyms and moved to Monmouth in the Spring of 2013. She’s coached by Maggie Haney and Victoria Levine and her training partners are fellow junior elites Ari Agrapides and Laurie Hernandez. Foberg said that her motivation for moving to MG Elite was to be as good Hernandez.
Hernandez is also an up and coming junior who, unfortunately, won’t be competing at this years P&G Championships due to a knee injury. However, the trio make a great training group that keep each other on their toes. Foberg and Hernandez are both the same age, and since Hernandez is already on the National Team, Foberg strives to do the same. Agrapides is a year younger, so has a little more time, but is driven by the same goals.

Foberg’s Future

Foberg is out to impress Martha Karolyi on both days of competition at the P&G Championships. With there being so few big competitions throughout the year within the elite world, every single competition counts. Karolyi will be expecting her to deliver and will watch how she handles the Championship pressures with her much improved routines from last year.
As a 2000 baby, Foberg figures to be a contender for Rio 2016. She has the potential to grow into a strong, consistent competitor and she’s striving every day towards her goal of making the National Team. We look forward to seeing her continue to improve throughout the rest of 2014 and see what 2015 has to bring. So don’t be surprised when you see her name, she’s driven and has more in store over the next few years that won’t be unnoticed.
