In an exciting upset, the No. 13 Minnesota Gophers scored a 196.700 to defeat No.7 Michigan 196.025, No. 15 Penn State 196.475, and Iowa 194.750 at the Big 10 quad meet in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The huge win and 6-1 conference record earns the Gophers a piece of the Big 10 regular season title tying them with Nebraska. Last year, Minnesota tied with Michigan for the Big 10 regular season title.
Michigan’s third place finish snapped their 10-meet home winning streak. The Wolverine’s last home loss was March 9, 2012 against the University of Georgia. Michigan ran into problems on balance beam where the Wolverines had to count a fall for the fist time this season. Both senior Shelby Gies and sophomore Austin Sheppard fell during their routines. Michigan rallied on floor exercise earning a 49.300 but it was not enough to pass Penn State or Minnesota.
