#8 Michigan edges out #7 Nebraska

#8 Michigan edges out #7 Nebraska
In tonight's intense, top-ten matchup, Michigan edged out Nebraska 196.65 to 196.125. The Cornhuskers were in the lead from the start but after a fall on beam in their third rotation, they fell behind and while they made a great effort on floor, they were not able to close the gap after Michigan took the lead. Michigan is ranked 8th this week, only .055 behind 7th ranked Nebraska.

Senior Emily Wong of Nebraska took first all-around with a 39.475. Wong is number 3 in the nation this week with a 39.525 average and hasn't scored below a 39.425 this season. Wong also claimed the bars and floor titles with a 9.9 and 9.925 respectively. Joanna Sampson of Michigan took first on Vault with a 9.925 and finished only 0.025 behind Wong in all-around with a 39.45. Sampson and teammate Nicole Artz tied for first on bars with a 9.825. 

Nebraska started out strong on vault lead by junior Jessie DeZiel's 9.9. They continued their momentum on bars scoring a 49.225 as a team. Beam has been their strongest event this season but tonight they had an uncharacteristic fall and were not able to rally. They counted a 9.6 and 9.675 and ended the rotation with a 48.65. They finished on floor lead by Wong's 9.925 but it wasn't enough to overcome beam.

Michigan started out hesitant on bars and received their second lowest team score of the season- 49.025. They moved on to vault and scored a solid 49.275 lead by Sampson's 9.925. Floor has been their strongest event all season and while the Huskers were having trouble on beam, Michigan burst into the lead with a floor score of 49.375. They moved on to beam with confidence and hit a 48.975, enough to win the meet.
