Ernst to Represent Team USA at Tokyo World Cup

USA Gymnastics announced today that Peyton Ernst of Texas Dreams Gymnastics has been selected to represent Team USA and join a strong competitive field at the 2014 Tokyo World Cup on April 5. The event is the final competition of the FIG All Around Series. It will be held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan.

Ernst returns to this competition after finishing second all around last year behind Japan's Asuka Teramoto, who will once again be in the women's field.

In addition to Ernst and Teramoto, the following athletes are expected to comprise the remainder of the women's roster: 2006 World all-around champion Vanessa Ferrari of Italy, Gulia Steingruber of Switzerland, Victoria Moors of Canada, Carlotta Ferlito of Italy, and Roxana Popa of Spain. A participant from Russia will be announced later. Ernst must demonstrate competition readiness at National Team training camp prior to departing for Tokyo.

The mens' side is even stronger. All three all around medalists from the 2013 World Championships  - Kohei Uchimura and Ryohei Kato of Japan, and Fabian Hambuechen of Germany - are expected to compete. They  will be joined by Max Whitlock and Daniel Purvis of Great Britain, Sergio Sasaki Junior of Brazil, Shixlong Zhou of China, and Fabian Gonzalez of Spain.

The men's and women's all-around competition will take place on April 5.

More on USA's Peyton Ernst:
In her first year as a senior elite in 2013, Ernst had a breakout season. She earned her very first international assignments in March of 2013 where she helped the U.S. Team win gold at the City of Jesolo Trophy and the international Tri-Meet in Chemnitz, Germany. She won beam and placed 2nd all around at the 2013 Secret Classic. At the P&G Championships, she finished 4th in the all around and on bars and beam. Ernst has verbally committed to the #1 ranked University of Florida gymnastics team and is set to graduate in 2015.
