Hall Perfect in #3 LSU Win Over #7 Bama
Lloimincia Hall capped a record night with a 10.0 on floor in the final performance of the night as No. 3 LSU disposed of seventh-ranked Alabama, 197.650-196.825, in front of 8,055 fans, the second-largest crowd in school history, Friday night in the Maravich Center.
LSU (3-1, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) posted the fifth-highest team score in school history with a 197.650 with a 49.575 on vault, 49.400 on bars, 49.125 on beam and 49.550 on floor.
“You can’t say enough about having a huge crowd support you during a meet,” LSU head coach D-D Breaux said. “There was so much enthusiasm and passion tonight, and we fed off the energy from the LSU faithful in the arena.”
The 10.0 is the third perfect score on floor in Hall’s career, the second-most in LSU annals behind April Burkholder who tallied four 10s on floor.
Rheagan Courville earned her fourth all-around title in four meets this season with a 39.500, and she also captured the vault title with a 9.975. With the title, Courville moved into sole possession of fourth place for career all-around titles in LSU history with 17.
Sarie Morrison tallied the 22nd bars title of her career with a personal-best tying 9.95, and Hall won her 18th career floor title with the 10.0. Morrison leads LSU in career bars titles, and Hall is fourth in LSU history in floor titles.
“Momentum is so important in every sport, and we could see it building throughout our lineups tonight,” LSU head coach D-D Breaux said. “I am proud of how we executed in most spots, and it was a fabulous evening with great performances and a wonderful crowd backing us all the way.”
LSU posted the fourth-highest vault total in school history with a 49.575 to start the meet, highlighted by a near-perfect 9.975 from Courville and a 9.95 from Morrison. Britney Ranzy scored a 9.90, and Kaleigh Dickson, Ashleigh Gnat and Jessie Jordan all added 9.875s to round out the lineup.
In the second rotation LSU earned a season-high 49.400 on bars, led by Morrison’s 9.95 and Courville’s 9.925. Ranzy and Jessica Savona tallied 9.85s, Dickson added a 9.825 and Jordan totaled a 9.80.
LSU finished with a 49.125 on beam. Hall led off the event with a career-high tying 9.875, and Savona followed with a 9.825. Freshman Sydney Ewing turned in a great routine with a season-best 9.85. After Gnat scored a 9.15 and Courville recorded a 9.675, Jordan came through in the clutch with a 9.90 in the anchor spot to get the crowd roaring heading into the final event.
With the LSU faithful cheering the team on, the Tigers posted a 49.550 on floor that ranks as the fifth-best floor total in school history. Dickson led off with a 9.80, and Jordan followed with a season-high tying 9.875. Gnat recorded a 9.85, and Savona earned her third 9.90 of the season in the fourth spot.
Courville tallied a 9.925 in the fifth spot, and Hall brought the fans to their feet with a flawless performance to score a 10.0 and wrap up LSU’s victory.
Alabama (3-2, 3-1) scored a 196.825 with a 49.300 on vault, 49.125 on bars, 49.275 on beam and 49.125 on floor.
LSU will travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to take on No. 10 Arkansas at 7 p.m. CT on Feb. 7, and the Tigers will turn right around and compete at No. 1 Oklahoma at 2 p.m. on Feb. 9.
