Only two athletes per country are allowed to advance to finals
Kohei Uchimura leads the field in the all-around after Day 1 of men's qualifications with a score of 91.924. USA's Sam Mikulak is in second with a score of 89.532 followed by Lin Chaopan of China in third with a score of 89.430.
Seon Hak Yang of Korea posted the top score on vault with a 15.299 followed by Oleg Verniaiev of Ukraine with a 15.041. Sergio Sasaki of Brazil sits in third with a score of 14.987. USA's Jake Dalton scored a 14.866 leaving him in sixth.
Kohei Uchimura of Japan posted the top score on high bar with a 15.658. Fabian Hambuechen of Germany was second with a score of 15.633 followed by Epke Zonderland of the Netherlands in third with a 15.433. Zonderland is the reigning Olympic High Bar Champion.
USA's Brandon Wynn earned the top score of the day on rings with a 15.700. Wynn's routine was highlighted by his stuck full twisting double layout dismount.
Italy's Alberto Busnari leads the field on pommel horse with a score of 15.633. Daniel Barron Corral of Mexico is second with a 15.600 followed by Robert Seligman of Croatia in third with a 15.500.
Kenzo Shirai of Japan stole the show on floor with a crazy routine that ended with a STUCK quadruple twist. Shirai's 16.233 crushed the rest of the field. Kohei Uchimura posted the second best score of the day with a 15.333 followed by Fabian Hambuechen of Germany in third with a score of 15.266. USA's Jake Dalton has some uncharacteristic steps on his landings which resulted in a score of 15.166. Dalton sits in fifth after day one and will have to wait and see if his score holds up tomorrow.

How to advance to all-around and event finals
The top 24 all-around gymnasts qualify to the all-around final, while the top eight scorers on each event advance to the individual apparatus finals. However, only two gymnasts per country may advance to individual and all-around finals.

Sept. 27 - 29 Podium Training, All Day
Sept. 30 – men's qualification, 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Oct. 1 – men's and women's qualification, 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Oct. 3 – men's all-around finals, 8 p.m.
Oct. 5 – event finals, men's floor exercise, pommel horse and still rings, 2:30 p.m.
Oct. 6 – event finals, men's vault, parallel bars and horizontal bars, 2:30 p.m.
