U.S. National Team Training Camp Underway


With the 2013 Secret Classic just under two months away, training camps at the Karolyi Ranch are starting to get serious. Well, more serious than usual. 

U.S. National team and national training team gymnasts and coaches are currently down at the Karolyi Ranch in Texas for the second to last training camp before the summer elite season officially begins. 

The biggest news from camp so far is the return of 2012 Olympic Champion McKayla Maroney. This marks her first trip to camp since the Olympics and proves that she is serious about returning to competition in 2013, eyeing another World Championships gold medal on vault. 

Maroney's biggest competition will be first year senior Simone Biles who also boasts two powerful vaults worthy of a place on the World podium.

We'll see many of these athletes in action at the 2013 Secret Classic on July 27th, and again at the 2013 U.S. Championships held in Hartford August 15-18. The ultimate goal for the senior elites will be the 2013 World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium held September 25 through October 7. This year's competition is an individual championships meaning just four athletes can be selected for Team USA. Medals will be awarded for individual all around and individual event finals.
