#3 Michigan Wins UCLA Quad Meet

Competing in the site of the 2013 NCAA Championships, UCLA's Pauley Pavillion, the #3 ranked Michigan Wolverines rallied after a slow start on beam (48.925) to win today's quad meet at UCLA with their highest team score of the season, 197.550. 


 UCLA finished in second with a respectable 197.075. California scored a 194.925 to edge out Iowa State's 194.650.

 Michigan used stuck landings on every event to earn incredible team totals of 49.50 or higher on every event but beam. Their vault total of 49.550 was their highest team vault score since 2008.

 The Wolverines led UCLA by just two tenths heading into the final rotation. Michigan was on uneven bars while the Bruins competed floor. Anette Miele led off the Michigan bar squad with a fall on her tkatchev, but her team stepped up to score a massive 49.575 thanks to a 9.95 by Sachi Sugiyma. Joanna Sampson anchored the event with a 9.925 to match the incredible scores posted by teammates Brittnee Martinez and Katie Zurales.  



 This meet also featured a matchup of the nation's top all arounders. UCLA senior Vanessa Zamarripa is currently ranked first nationally with an RQS of 39.590 while Sampson of Michigan is second with an RQS of 39.50. Zamarripa had a few small wobbles today, giving Sampson the all around edge with an huge 39.575. Zamarripa finished with a 39.40 to tie for second with teammate Olivia Courtney.

 Zamarripa and Courntey also tied for today's vault title with 9.950's. Sugiyama won the bar title outright with her 9.950. Iowa State's Michelle Shealy won beam with a 9.875. Sampson shared the floor title with UCLA scored Alyssa Pritchett who scored a career high 9.950.

 UCLA sophomore Mattie Larson unfortunately suffered a knee injury during warmups and could not compete.
