NCAA Men's Gymnastics Ranks- March 26, 2012
NCAA Men's Gymnastics Ranks- March 26, 2012
After nine weeks as the #1 rank, OU falls to #2 and Penn State is now in the lead! For the national rankings this week, the top four team scores were averaged (no more than two from a home meet and the highest score was dropped).
Last weekend, the men from Penn State set a record for the top team score of the season, but they have now broken that record! Penn State scored a massive 360.600 to top Temple. At this competition, Penn State also broke their program record for pommel horse, scoring a 60.300! Stand out gymnasts included junior Scott Rosenthal who is currently ranked #1 in the nation for rings, and other event winners- junior Parker Raque, freshman Craig Hernandez, and freshman Tristan Duverglas. Rosenthal scored over a 16.000 on rings five times this season! In two weeks, Penn State will travel to compete at the Big Ten Conference Championships.
This weekend, OU had a comeback win to beat both Minnesota (350.600) and Ohio State (344.500)! OU's regular season record now stands at 15-1. The Sooners and Gophers were tied going into the final rotation, but OU was able to perform well enough on high bar to take the victory. OU scored a 353.100. The Sooners have now claimed the regular season floor title as a team for the 27th consecutive time! Sooner stand out and Olympic hopeful, Jake Dalton, is also the nation's leader for floor exercise. The Sooners will head to the MPSF Championships on April 7th. This is a hybrid conference that features Oklahoma, Air Force, California, and Stanford.
The Men's NCAA Gymnastics regular season has ended... now onto the post season! Who do you think will qualify to nationals?
