The 2012 men's NCAA season has officially begun. Most teams opened their season at big invitationals. Ohio State came out firing, besting five top teams during the Windy City Invite at UIC. The #1 preseason ranked Oklahoma Sooners began their season at the Rocky Mountain Open at Air Force and only used their top all arounder, Jake Dalton, on three events.

Preseason ranked #6 Penn State finds themselves with the #1 ranking for week one after opening their season in a dual meet at home with Army. They were without standout gymnast Felix Aronovitch of Israel who qualified for the Olympics earlier this week at the London Test Event. Scott Rosenthal stepped up and set a program record on the rings with a massive 16.30. The previous record was 16.00 set by Tommy Ramos in 2008. 

If you haven't heard, as of this season, the NCAA is having judges score the vault one full point lower per gymnast than in the past. This should make a big difference. In the past, vault scores were so inflated compared to the other 5 events that most meets came down to that event and it gave the power gymnasts a big advantage.
