Mattie Larson To Join UCLA Team For 2012 Season

U.S. National Team member and World silver medalist Mattie Larson will enroll in school in the Fall and compete for the UCLA Gymnastics team in the 2012 season.

Larson initially signed a letter-of-intent in November of 2009 and deferred enrollment to continue training for the U.S. National Team. In 2010, she won the CoverGirl Classic all-around title and claimed the floor exercise title, silver medal in the all-around and bronze medal on uneven bars at the Visa Championships. She went on to earn a team silver medal at the 2010 World Championships.

A member of the U.S. National Team since 2007, Larson was seventh in the all-around at the 2008 Olympic Team Trials and also placed seventh in the all-around and third on floor at the 2008 Visa Championships. In 2009, she won the balance beam and floor exercise titles at the World Cup in Montreal. The Los Angeles native trained at nearby All Olympia Gymnastics Club under coaches Galina Marinova and Artur Akopyan.

"I can't wait to start at UCLA this fall," said Larson. "It is my dream school, and one of best schools out there. I'm excited to begin NCAA competition, and I think we're going to have amazing team this year!"

"I fell in love with Mattie Larson and her family when she was seven years old," said UCLA head coachValorie Kondos Field. "Since then, I have watched Mattie mature into not only one of the most beautiful gymnasts in the world but one of the most amazing young women and impressive student-athletes I've ever met. Her personality is as colorful as her athleticism is beautiful. All of us at UCLA are committed to helping Mattie fulfill all of her goals and dreams. With her multitude of talents, she has a wide variety of options to explore."
