Jake Dalton wins 2011 Winter Cup
Oklahoma sophomore Jake Dalton led after the preliminary competition and continued to dominate tonight in Las Vegas. It was a close match between 2009 World team member Dalton and 2-time US World Team member Danell Leyva, coming down to the last event. Leyva finished on high bar where he posted an incredible 16.00 to lead after day 1, but missed his laid out kovacs. Dalton was impressive throughout the weekend, especially on vault and floor. He vaulted an incredible tsukahara triple and earned a 16.55 tonight, the highest score of the competition on any event.

Coming in third was CJ Maestas, a current member of the US Junior National team (age 16-18) in his first major competition as part of the USOTC team. In addition to medaling in the all around, he took the title on rings. Look for more of him in the future. In 4th was Dalton's OU teammate, Alex Naddour, who is known for his pommel horse work but failed to hit a super impressive horse set in Vegas.

Here's a look at the all around rankings:

As far as the big guns, a few of the top American All Arounders were missing from all around this weekend - World bronze medalist Jonathan Horton only competed rings after a recent thumb injury, defending Winter Cup Champion & World team member Chris Brooks did not compete, World team member and defending NCAA Champion Chris Cameron only competed a few events in the preliminaries and did not make finals, World floor finalist Steven Legendre competed all around in night one but scratched everything but rings and vault tonight. He threw his dragulescu vault in finals and put a hand down, but still finished 4th. World team alternate Paul Ruggeri seems to always have bad luck at this meet. Much like in 2009, he was injured on vault and unable to finish the competition. But don't worry, the 2010 World Team members were guaranteed their spot on the Senior National team.

And now, here is the newly constructed 2011 USA Senior National team from now through August 2011:
Chris Brooks, Houston/ Hilton HHonors
Chris Cameron, Winter Haven, Fla./University of Michigan
Jake Dalton, Reno, Nev./University of Oklahoma
Joshua Dixon, San Jose, Calif./Stanford University
Andrew Elkind, Cherry Hill, N.J./Hilton HHonors
Jonathan Horton, Houston/Hilton HHonors
Glen Ishino, Santa Ana, Calif./University of California, Berkeley
Steven Legendre, Flower Mound, Texas/University of Oklahoma
Danell Leyva, Miami/ Hilton HHonors
CJ Maestas, Corrales, N.M./U.S. Olympic Training Center
Tyler Mizoguchi, Houston/University of Illinois
Alex Naddour, Gilbert, Ariz./University of Oklahoma
Paul Ruggeri, Manlius, N.Y./University of Illinois
Jesse Silverstein, Suffern, N.Y./U.S. Gymnastics Development Center II
Brandon Wynn, Voorhees, N.J./Ohio State University

Who's new? - Andrew Elkind, Joshua Dixon, CJ Maestas (bumped up from the Junior National Team), Jesse Silverstein, and Tyler Mizoguchi (back on the team after missing it in August)
Who's missing from the previous team? - Bryan DelCastillo (did not compete), Wes Haagensen, Joey Hagerty, Alex Buscaglia (he had a rough meet all around but his high bar set is national team-worthy.)
