WASHINGTON -- George Washington gymnastics head coach Margie Foster-Cunningham has announced the addition of Jason Vonk to the coaching staff as an assistant coach.

Vonk joins the Colonials after serving as the assistant coach at Yale for six years. As the primary coach of vault and uneven bars, he played a key role in developing the program by helping the team from the bottom of the conference to winning the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship in the spring of 2017 and achieving the highest team RQS in Yale's 45 year history.

"I am so excited to welcome Jason to the GW Women's Gymnastics staff," said head coach Margie Foster-Cunningham.

He will be invaluable in our pursuit to elevate the Women's Gymnastics program. He is technically strong and will enrich the talents of our staff.

"The welcome from the team and staff has already been overwhelming," said Vonk.

I can't wait to team up with Margie and Stephanie to coach this dedicated, talented, and accomplished group of student-athletes.

At Yale, Vonk also served as the recruiting coordinator and was in charge of the logistical operations of the gymnastics program. In addition to his coaching responsibilities at Yale, he also increased his involvement at USA Gymnastics as a Regional Clinician, where he had the opportunity to coach development and high tech camps and serve as a Coaches Congress Speaker.

Prior to his tenure at Yale, Vonk served as a coach in Colorado Springs at the Stars National Gymnastics Village. At Stars, he coached an elite gymnast onto the National Training Squad and to the U.S. Classic. He also had the opportunity to coach at the National Training Center and with USA Gymnastics National Staff and the Women's National Team Coordinator, Marta Karolyi. 
 
Vonk graduated from Calvin College in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science with a minor in physical education.
