Recruiting Breakdown: Iowa Adds Five New Faces For 2018 Season
The 2018 NCAA gymnastics season is still months away, but it's never too early to get to know the incoming freshman class for each team. Here's a breakdown of the new additions Iowa has made for next year.

Iowa missed advancing to the NCAA championships by a tenth of a point after a spectacular performance on balance beam in their final rotation. The Hawkeyes counted four scores of 9.900 or better from Charlotte Sullivan (9.900), Nikki Youd (9.925), Angel Metcaf (9.950), and Clair Kaji (9.950) -- plus a 9.875 from Savannah Borman to total a 49.600. Both Metcalf (all-around) and Kaji (balance beam) advanced to compete as individuals at the NCAA championships two weeks later. The Hawkeyes will be aiming to get back to the NCAA championships for the first time since 2004.

Outgoing: Savannah Borman, Mollie Drenth, Ashleigh Edlin, Angel Metcalf, Lexi Mura
The Hawkeyes leaned heavily on their all-arounders in both Drenth and Metcalf, particularly at the end of the season. They also lose a third routine on uneven bars (Mura) and on balance beam (Borman). Iowa loses 10 routines -- nearly half -- from their 2017 regionals lineup, including three of those beam routines. Competition will definitely be fierce to make it into the lineups.
