HUNTSVILLE, Texas, July 10, 2017 - The July women's developmental camp took place last week at USA Gymnastics National Team Training Center in Huntsville, Texas. The athletes were preparing for their upcoming elite competition season. Thirty-five athletes participated in the four-day camp with two-a-day training sessions led by 1988 Olympic champion Valeri Liukin, the U.S. women's National Team Coordinator, and the national coaching staff.

Each camp begins with physical abilities testing. Mia Viola of Rochester Gymnastics placed first in testing followed by Ui Soma of San Mateo Gymnastics. Third place was Caitlin Smith of Star's Gymnastics in Houston.

Kaliya Lincoln of Airborne Gymnastics Training Center was selected most improved camper by the national coaching staff.

The athletes and coaches were treated to a firework display at the training center on the Fourth of July.

At the end of camp, many of the athletes competed in the Hopes Classic and American Classic.
