SALT LAKE CITY--Robert Ladanyi (lad-ann-knee), a 12-year veteran of NCAA women's gymnastics coaching and former coach of the Romanian Junior National Team, has accepted a position as assistant coach of the Utah gymnastics team. Ladanyi, an assistant coach at Florida from 2006-15, has spent the last two years as a Denver assistant. He replaces Meredith Paulicivic, who was hired as the head coach at Ohio State.
 
"We are thrilled to announce Robert Ladanyi as our new assistant coach," said Utah co-head coach Tom Farden. "He is an outstanding coach with a championship pedigree and will be a wonderful addition to our staff."

He helped Florida win three NCAA team titles and Denver had its best season in school history this past year. Megan (co-head coach Megan Marsden) and I have watched him over the years and believe he has a lot to offer.

Ladanyi has coached three NCAA individual champions--Florida's Alaina Johnson (2013) and Bridget Sloan (2014) on bars and Denver's Nina McGee (2016) on floor. Johnson and Sloan were the first two NCAA uneven bar champions in Florida history, while McGee was the first NCAA titlist on any event for Denver. Ladanyi also assisted in three NCAA team championships at Florida from 2013-15 and was named the Southeast Region Co-Assistant Coach of the Year in 2011, 2013 and 2015.
 
When Gator head coach Rhonda Faehn left after the 2015 season to become the Senior Vice President of USA Gymnastics, Ladanyi went to Denver as an assistant coach. In his second season at Denver, the Pioneers achieved their best finish ever at the 2017 NCAA Championships, placing ninth.
 
"I'm very excited to join the University of Utah staff and I'm looking forward to starting as soon as possible," said Ladanyi.

I can't wait to be a part of the Utah gymnastics program and look forward to the challenge of competing for the national championship.

Ladanyi coached vault and tumbling on floor at Florida from 2006-10 and served as the uneven bar and co-conditioning coach for the Gators from 2011-15. He coached five NCAA individual vault finalists and Florida's 12 representatives in the NCAA floor finals from 2006-10 led the nation during that time span. Along with his two national bar champions, he coached the Gators to a total of 13 All-America awards on the event. At Denver, he oversaw vault and floor, with one NCAA champion and two All-Americans to his credit.
 
Before embarking on his collegiate coaching career, Ladanyi coached at the Mihaiuc Gymnastics Academy in Webster, Texas (2002-05); the Academy of Gymnastics and Dance in Las Vegas (2001-02); and S.G. Amsicora in Cagliari, Italy (1997-2001). While the head coach of CSM in his hometown of Baia Mare, Romania from 1992-97, he also served as coach of the Romania Junior National Team from 1994-97.
 
Ladanyi was an accomplished gymnast himself, training with the Romanian National Team before retiring from competition due to injury at age 19. He graduated from the Romanian National School of Coaching with a degree in holds a degree in International High Level Gymnastics.
 
He has two daughters, Gabby (12) and Laila (8).
