Maggie-less Oklahoma hits 198 (yes, again)

The top-ranked Sooners rested freshman standout Maggie Nichols in their second meet of the weekend on Sunday against Texas Woman's University. That did not, however, stop Oklahoma from hitting the 198 mark for the fourth time this season. It's the third time in four meets that the Sooners eclipsed 198.

The Sooners put up a massive 49.700 on the uneven bars with four gymnasts scoring a 9.900 or better, including McKenzie Wofford and Nicole Lehrmann each notching their first career perfect 10s. It is the second time this season that a team has put up multiple 10.0s in a rotation. UCLA had a pair of 10.0s again Stanford earlier in the season.

Oklahoma was near perfect on floor exercise with both AJ Jackson and Chayse Capps grabbing 9.975s. It was a season-best for Capps, whose artistic floor routine has been a fan favorite all season. For Jackson, it was her third 9.975 in her last four meets. She has scored a 9.900 or better in all but one meet this season.

A weekend of first 10.0s

Wofford and Lehrmann weren't the only ones to hit firsts on the weekend. Florida junior Alex McMurtry earned the first 10.0 of her career on floor exercise. McMurtry has earned 10.0s on vault and uneven bars already in her career, but this is the first for the junior on floor. Her back issues, which severely limit her training on floor, have been well-documented throughout her career at Florida. She struggled in her first floor outing on Feb. 19 but rebounded with a stellar set against Missouri on Friday night.

For Wofford, her first 10.0 was the first of her four-year career at Oklahoma. She's come close in the past--a 9.975 in 2014 and again in 2016. She finished the 2016 season tied for first in the country to finish the regular season and was third in 2015.

Lehrmann went right before Wofford and soared to a 10.0 of her own. She has been a solid, consistent competitor for the Sooners this season. She hasn't scored lower than a 9.850, and all but two scores on bars have been a 9.900 or better.

On the road again

Regional qualifying scores are the new way to calculate the rankings at this point in the season. The RQS takes the top six scores, throws out the high score and averages the remaining five. Of those five scores, at least three must be road scores. Take a look at some of the top road scores of the weekend:

Aside from Oklahoma's high score at Texas Woman's University, Utah had one of the top away scores of the weekend with a 197.600 at Arizona State. It was a homecoming of sorts for Arizona natives MyKayla Skinner and Kari Lee.

Skinner won the all-around with a 39.750 while winning vault, beam, and floor. The Utes freshman still has a hop on her vault landing. If she can start sticking that landing, look for her scores there to get even higher. Lee was the winner on the uneven bars with a near-perfect 9.975.

Oregon State continued its climb up the standings with a season-high 197.125 on the road against Stanford. It was the first time this season that the Beavers hit the 197 mark. Oregon State posted four scores of 9.900 or better on floor exercise and notched a team total of 49.475. Kaytianna McMillan paced OSU on floor with a 9.925.

Georgia, which has hit 197 just once this season, inched close to a 197 mark at Oklahoma on Friday night. The Gymdogs had a solid meet to score just under the 197 mark with a 196.925. Sydney Snead was back in the vault lineup for the second week in a row with a stuck Yurchenko 1 1/2 for a 9.950, while Ashlyn Broussard notched her second straight score of 9.900 or better on the balance beam. GiGi Marino tallied her second consecutive 9.950 on floor exercise.

Missouri traveled to Florida, and the Tigers put up their top score of the season in Gainesville. The Tigers were very consistent in their performances--they scored 49.175s on uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise. Missouri did not count a fall on any event and didn't count a score lower than a 9.725. Becca Schugel put up a season-high 9.900 on floor, while Britney Ward scored a season-best 9.950 on beam.

Boise State head across the country to Alabama and scored a solid 196.675. The Broncos put up just five athletes on both balance beam and floor exercise and didn't score lower than a 9.775 on either event. Alex Esmerian made her second appearance of the season on balance beam and won the event with a 9.925.

Finn-again-again-again. What is it going to take to get a 10?

Sarah Finnegan put up her third 9.950 in a row on Friday against Auburn. And another impressive routine had more than a few wondering what exactly it's going to take for the sophomore to come away with the perfect score on balance beam.

Mossett, UCLA dazzle on floor

UCLA struggled mightily on floor exercise with a revamped lineup last Monday against Utah State and Bridgeport. That was not the case in Saturday's meet against Arizona. The Bruins scored a 49.625 with five scores of 9.875 or better and capped off the meet with Hallie Mossett's best floor routine of the season. Mossett was agonizingly close to a 10.0, scoring a 9.975.
