Meet Preview: No. 3 Florida Gators Take On No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide
In the nation's highest-ranked dual meet this weekend, No. 3 Florida travels to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to face No. 6 Alabama on Friday, February 3, at 8:30 PM in Coleman Coliseum.

The Florida Gators are coming off a memorable "Link to Pink" meet in which UF beat Auburn 197.70-196.40 in front of 9,108 fans. For the second week in a row, four Gators picked up wins on four different apparatuses. Junior Alex McMurtry won vault with a 9.95, debuting her double-twisting Yurchenko. Freshmen Amelia Hundley won uneven bars with a score of 9.95, and Rachel Gowey took the balance beam title with a score of 9.925. Junior Kennedy Baker captured the floor exercise with a perfect 10.0, while Hundley won the all-around title with a score of 39.55.

Performance Notes:
  • Gowey performed all-around for the second time this season.
  • Gators set or equaled 13 collegiate-best marks Friday. Gowey led the team with five personal bests -- vault (9.80), bars (9.875), beam (9.925), floor (9.875) and all-around (39.475).
  • Hundley is the first freshman to win an all-around since Alicia Boren used a 39.525 to win the 2016 Gators Link to Pink title.
  • Amanda Cheney wasn't in the lineup at the beginning of the meet but took Baker's spot on vault.

Weekly Honors:
Baker and Hundley both received SEC honors this week, which was a first for both Gators athletes. Hundley received the honor of SEC Freshman of the Week, and Baker received SEC Specialist of the Week.

Florida vs. Alabama:
This Friday is Alabama's 13th annual "Power to Pink" meet. This is the second Breast Cancer Awareness meet for the Gators but not the last, as the team will also be in pink at Arkansas in two weeks. After Florida competed against Auburn on Friday, the Tigers then traveled to Birmingham on Sunday for a matchup against Alabama. The Tide won 195.850-194.675 after coming back from a full-point deficit after the first two rotations.

Alabama head coach Dana Duckworth on beating Auburn:
Well, if they wanted a show, I think they got one. I'm very proud of the fight our team showed. They never gave up. They just kept believing. I think that's the biggest lesson from tonight is that the meet is never open until the last routine has been scored.
What Not To Miss From Alabama:
  • Junior Kiana Winston in the all-around, especially beam and floor
  • Junior Nickie Guerrero and senior Aja Sims on balance beam
  • Sims' spunky floor routine
  • Senior Katie Bailey on uneven bars
What Not To Miss From Florida:
  • Rachel Slocum on vault
  • Hundley on uneven bars
  • Boren and Gowey on beam
  • Boren on floor
