Nadia Comaneci Named Spokeswoman for 2017 World Championships
Nadia Comaneci has been named the official spokeswomen of the 2017 World Championships held in Montreal, Canada next October. The competition will be held in the same stadium where Comaneci solidified herself as one of the biggest legends in gymnastics history by earning the first-ever perfect 10 at an Olympics.

Comaneci will be a part of the festivities surrounding the event, including a reception that will celebrate Canada's 2016 Olympics.

Jean-Paul Caron, CEO of the organizing committee, is very much looking forward to Comaneci's return to Montreal.

The love affair between Nadia and Montreal has been ongoing since 1976; it is therefore both an honour and a privilege to be partnering and working with the queen of the 1976 Games.

Olympic legend Nadia Comaneci will be the official spokesperson of the 2017 Gymnastics World Championships in Montreal, Canada, October 2-8, 2017.

Held in a year when the city of Montreal is celebrating its 375th anniversary and Canada fetes 150 years of confederation, the 47th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships are part of a larger national celebration.

The World Championships will be held in the Montreal Olympic Stadium, the main venue of the 1976 Olympic Games. Comaneci electrified the sports world that year by becoming the first woman to score a perfect 10 in Olympic competition, an exploit that made the 14-year-old Romanian a superstar. Four decades later, her name is still synonymous with perfection in Gymnastics.

Comaneci will be on hand at a reception Wednesday at Gare Dalhousie in Old Montreal, along with 2016 Canadian Olympians Elsabeth Black, Shallon Olsen, Rose-Kaying Woo and Scott Morgan.

"The love affair between Nadia and Montreal has been ongoing since 1976; it is therefore both an honour and a privilege to be partnering and working with the queen of the 1976 Games," said Jean-Paul Caron, CEO of the organising committee.
