McKayla Maroney Confirms End Of Competitive Gymnastics Career
2012 Olympic Gold Medalist McKayla Maroney opened up in an interview released this morning and confirmed that she is not competing in gymnastics anymore. Maroney is most famous for her performance at the London Olympics and she last competed at the 2013 World Championships where she won gold on vault. She has been absent from competitions as well as National Team Training Camps since then, suffering from injuries and illness.

While Maroney is officially announcing her retirement, she asks to not use that word, "I don’t want anybody to ever think that, you know, McKayla is retiring. I don’t even want people to use that word." Maroney says she will always be a part of the sport, "the only difference is I’m not competing anymore.”

Maroney addresses the difficult task of moving on from competition in a very honest conversation. She also opens up about many other topics from her elite career as well as what she plans to focus on next.
