Sooners Dominate at Perfect 10 Challenge
The Oklahoma Sooners are continuing to dominate in the meets that they compete in. Last night the Sooners took on the University of Denver, George-Washington and Utah State. The Sooners won the meet with a 197.675, DU came in second with a 196.000, George-Washington with a 195.750 and USU with a 195.100.
The Sooners led off the meet with great vaults and solid bars. Junior Chayse Capps, sophomore Ali Jackson and Senior Haley Scaman all had scores of 9.925 or higher. On bars, freshman Nicole Lehrmann and senior Keeley Kmieciak both scored a 9.950 with their beautiful bar routines that had stuck dismounts. Capps proved how solid she is for the Sooners on beam by being the only Oklahoma gymnast to score above a 9.9. On floor, Jackson and Scaman demonstrated why they compete in the last two spots in the line up. Jackson stuck all three of her tumbling passes, and Scaman had her usual sky-high double layout that wowed the crowd.
The Pioneers started their meet off on bars where senior Nina McGee led the team with a 9.875. On the beam, McGee also led the team by being the only Pioneer to score above a 9.8. Next on floor McGee proved why she is No. 3 in the country on that event. Her fun, spunky routine and her huge double layout  led her to a 9.925 on floor. Lastly on vault, McGee led the team again with a 9.875 for her tsuk full and freshman Diana Chesnok also showed a great vault with a 9.850 on her yurchenko full.
Sophomore Camille Drouin-Allaire had a huge impact to the Colonials third place finish. She competed in the all-around and scored a high score of a 9.9 on floor. Junior Alex DeMoura also competed all around for the Colonials and scored as high as a 9.775 on vault and bars. The Colonials started the meet off strong on their first three events. On beam though, they had to count a couple low scores.
The Aggies had their third highest scoring meet at the Perfect 10 Challenge. They finished the meet with a 195.100. The team was led by all arounder McKinzey Martinez, a senior for the Aggies. Martinez showed consistency throughout all four events and she scored as high as a 9.850 on bars. Another key performer for the Aggies was junior Bailey McIntire. McIntire had the second highest score on bars, a 9.825, behind Martinez, and she also scored a 9.825 on floor.
The Perfect 10 Challenge was a great meet for the four teams that competed. With it being on podium, it gives the gymnast a chance to experience podium before the post-season starts.
