On Point: Our Favorite Turns
From Level Ones to Senior Elites, all gymnasts face the required turn on beam. While this has some gymnasts spinning out of control, we'd like to take a moment to applaud those whose turning skills are on point. This week we highlight six gymnasts and seven unique turns that have us all in a twist!

Gymnasts play to their strengths, and Alexis Vasquez of Chow's Gymnastics displays her incredible flexibility with a flawless needle turn. Nose to her knee, Vasquez proves that full turns are worthy of attention. Fingers crossed she competes this unique skill at the U.S. Classic later this summer!

Arkansas graduate and former senior international elite Casey Jo Magee stunned us last May with not only a triple turn, but a triple turn in combination! Her quick revolutions on the four inch beam revolutionize the classic element turning it into an artform.

Not to be outdone, Sara Finnegan also swirls things up with her triple turn in squat position. While this contest only considers beam turns, this element is worth a second look--and the risk of double vision--as Finnegan also elegantly incorporates this distinct turn in her floor routine.

Although retired from the sport, Chellsie Memmel's illusion turn refuses to fade from our memories. How Memmel performs this skill with such poise and grace continues to elude and enthrall us.

We award our next spiraling specialist spot to Sanne Wevers of the Netherlands for incorporating not one, but two unique turns into her routine! Wevers performs a double turn with a leg in horizontal, a skill named after her in the code of points. Not impressed yet? Wevers also performs a triple turn in her routine not to mention a few other "simpler" spins. See if you can count how many revolutions this young gymnast makes in all, but careful not to get dizzy!

We round out the competition with Elisabetta Preziosa of Italy who also has her signature turn named for her in the code of points. Preziosa impresses with a full turn in the ring position demonstrating that turns can be just as exciting as the high-flying acro skills!
