Ten reasons to watch the Sochi Olympics

10 reasons gymnastics fans should watch the Winter Olympics:

1.
Our girl Nastia will be commentating for NBC’s Sports Desk!

2.
The incredible athletic feats, inspiring stories, and moments of glory will most definitely motivate you to work hard in the gym.

3.
It’s always good to learn about new sports and find potential new interests, especially since everyone has to move on from gymnastics at some point! Unless you’re Jordan Jovtchev or Oksana Chusovitina. Or this ridiculously awesome lady.

4.
Regular TV will be around later, but the Olympics only come once every two years. (Well, technically every four years, but you know what I mean.) Time to bust out the TiVo!

5.
Ice skating includes a lot of things that we gymnastics fans love: fun music, choreography, jumps, spins, and sparkly outfits! Who knows? Maybe you’ll even get some inspiration for your next floor routine.

6.
Not so confident in your sweeping technique for household chores? Curling doubles as a crash course in proper broom handling.

7.
The theme pattern for all of the décor and souvenirs is downright beautiful.

8.
Ever wanted to see a flying tomato? American snowboarder Shaun White, 2x gold medal winner, has been graced with this saucy nickname (pun intended) because of his tomato-red hair. Reminds me a bit of when Gabby Douglas was dubbed “the flying squirrel,” though I can’t say either nickname is 100% flattering.

9.
The Jamaican bobsled team will be there! Sounds like the perfect excuse to watch Cool Runnings for the millionth time. Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme…

10.
Let’s face it – gymnastics only steps into the public limelight once every four years, but during the Olympics, the athletes finally gain recognition for all of their hard work and sacrifice. Shouldn’t we support fellow athletes and help give them their own well-deserved moment of glory?!

The Olympics start on Thursday, Feb. 6th and run through the 23rd. Watch them!!
