Jordyn Wieber Undecided on Return

Jordyn Wieber
is still deciding about her return to competitive gymnastics. On Tuesday in an interview with WVOX Radio, Jordyn said “I’m still sort of deciding what I want to do at this point,”  via NBC Sports.

Jordyn just finished her freshman year at UCLA where she is also a manager for the gymnastics team. After turning pro, UCLA head coach Valorie Kondos Field offered Jordyn a manager position as a way to stay involved with the team even though she wouldn’t be able to compete.

When Jordyn’s mom Rita visited Jordyn at UCLA last year, Rita said she never saw Jordyn happier. Rita also stated that Jordyn was trying to “get at least one year of college under her belt before heading back into serious elite training in 2014.” Jordyn was not allowed to train with the team but would practice in the mornings by herself before classes and the team practice.

Comebacks are tough in gymnastics and even tougher after you’ve been to the Olympics. Many assume that after a gymnast goes to the Olympics their career is over. What more could they want to achieve? Surprisingly, every single one of the fierce five has stated that they want to return to gymnastics.

McKayla Maroney and Kyla Ross have both competed internationally since the Olympics. McKayla competed at the 2013 World Championships where she placed first on vault. Kyla also competed at Worlds last year where she placed second all-around to Simone Biles. Kyla has been competing consistently this season and won the all-around title at the Jesolo Trophy in March. Aly Raisman is training for her return. Gabby Douglas attended the past two National Team Training Camps and is looking to compete this season.

If any of the Fierce Five make the 2016 Olympic team, they would be the first US female gymnast to compete in back-to-back Olympics since Dominique Dawes and Amy Chow in 1996 and 2000.

Do you think Jordyn still has the drive and ability to make another Olympic team? Who out of the Fierce Five do you think has the best shot? Tell us in the comments section below.
