Stellar Seniors - Jessie Jordan, LSU

Our Stellar Senior this week is LSU’s Jessie Jordan, currently ranked No. 3 in the all-around standings and tied for second in the beam rankings. Jessie hails from Houston, Texas and trained under Deliana Vodenitcharova and Roumen Yordanov at Houston Gymnastics Center. She also trained with the infamous Alexander Alexandrov at HGC before he left to take over the Russian program and coach Aliya Mustafina. Jessie competed at the J.O. level and finished in the top 10 at J.O. nationals each year from 2007-2009.

Jessie started her collegiate career at LSU in 2012 and very quickly became one of the team’s top all-around performers. She achieved season high scores of 9.9 on vault, 9.8 on bars, 9.875 on beam, and 9.85 on floor, and she also won three individual titles that year on vault, beam and in the all-around. She was awarded Second-Team All-SEC and Freshman All-SEC honors after placing 6th in the all-around at SEC Championships.

Jessie only improved in her sophomore year, where she posted new career highs on each event and in the all-around. She won the NCAA Columbus Regional all-around title with her new career high of 39.450, as well as the beam title with a new high of 9.95. Her high scores were not unusual, either, as she scored a 9.90 or higher a total of eight times throughout the season. She also earned Second-Team All-America honors on floor and in the all-around at NCAA Championships Semifinals.

Jessie’s junior year season ended with her ranked No. 9 in the all-around standings with a score of 39.510. She also ranked No. 6 on her best event, balance beam, and No. 16 on vault. She beat her previous career best in every event (9.95 on vault, 9.925 on bars, 9.975 on beam, and 9.925 on floor) and in the all-around (39.600). She earned a total of eight individual titles that year, and was instrumental in helping LSU earn their highest score in school history, a 198.325, at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional when she scored a 9.925 on floor and 9.90s on vault and beam. Throughout the season, she achieved scores of 9.90 or higher a total of 22 times. She earned First-Team All-America honors in the all-around by finishing in a tie for fourth at NCAA Championships Semifinals, and she recorded First-Team Regular Season All-America honors on beam and Second-Team Regular Season All-America honors on vault and in the all-around.

One of the things that stands out most about Jessie is her incredible form. She shows a lot of precision in both her dance and tumbling on beam and floor and great lines and exquisite toe point on all of her events. It's no wonder she sees very few deductions in her scores. Jessie is also a very calm competitor, particularly on beam, where she shows no nerves and completes each skill with usually no wobbles. Check out her beautiful beam routine below from Gymnastike's coverage of the Metroplex Challenge:

Jessie has continued to perform extremely well so far this season and we look forward to watching her compete the remainder of her final year at LSU.
