Strong and Controlled Megan Walker

This week, our Stellar Senior is No. 7 ranked Auburn’s Megan Walker. Megan competes bars, beam and floor for the Tigers and consistently contributes high scores for the team. This week she is ranked No. 7 on beam. She’s originally from Pennsylvania and competed at the J.O. level with Southern Tier Gymnastics Academy. Prior to arriving at auburn, she was a 3-time Pennsylvania all-around champion and 3-time regional all-around champion. She also excelled on bars and beam, winning the regional championships 3 times on each event. At J.O. Nationals in 2010, she won the silver medal on bars.

Megan started competing for Auburn in 2012, competing bars and beam in every meet of the season. She competed in the SEC Championships as well as NCAA Regionals. Her high for the season on bars was achieved in a meet against Florida - a 9.875. In a meet against BYU, she scored her season high on beam with a 9.825.

In her sophomore year, Megan continued to compete on bars and beam, performing in every meet of the season. She improved on both events, scoring a 9.925 as a new career high on bars in a meet against Maryland. In the same meet, she scored her fourth 9.9 on beam. Her new career high on beam came in a meet against Alabama when she scored a 9.925. Megan also won several titles in her sophomore season, including six beam titles and three bars titles.

In Megan’s junior season, she added in floor exercise to a number of meets and scored a career high of 9.85 on the event in two meets, including the NCAA Regional. She continued to excel on beam and bars and matched her beam career high of 9.925 on two occasions, one being at the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional. She was named the All-SEC team, and she also received the Sarah Wentworth Award, presented to the Auburn gymnast who best represents the “Auburn creed.”

Megan’s senior year has been her best yet. She has won a total of eight individual titles so far, including six on beam and two on bars. One of her best meets was last weekend against Alabama, where she tied all three of her career highs with a 9.925 on bars and beam and a 9.85 on floor. Check out the video below of Megan scoring another 9.925 in a meet against LSU:

Megan always looks like she owns the beam - she shows a lot of control and no nerves whatsoever. She also regularly sticks landings and shows strong execution, especially on bars where she keeps her knees locked together and always hits those handstands. We look forward to seeing how she performs for the remainder of her time at Auburn.
