Kerri Strug Uncut - Changes In The Sport, Level Of Difficulty, Favorite Gymnasts
Behind every Gymnastike Gold documentary there is bonus footage and untold stories. In our recent documentary shoot with Kerri Strug, she talked about the changes in scoring that have taken place since she competed. She also comments on the level of difficulty in USA and veterans versus newcomers. Watch the uncut clip below:

On the changes in scoring over the years:
“I don’t really care for the changing in the scoring. I think something was to be said for the 10. Clearly my generation is getting older and older but for me I identified Nadia Comaneci and the 10- that really stood out that was a significant part of gymnast so for that to change is very different.

I was not as strong at the compulsory exercises so for me personally I would have loved it had they not had them implemented when I was a gymnast. But I think it says a lot about the gymnast and the teams and whatnot, so I would like on some level for that to come back.

You always think the human body can’t do more and then it does. But until certain things are changed I just don’t know how it can get any more difficult. But it can! Because it just seems like every quadrennium it does. Kudos to the girls that are in training."

On Team USA favorites:
“Clearly Simone is doing phenomenal. I think it would be cool to see some of the girls that were on the 2012 team be extremely successful again, and I know at Nationals some of them were. But it’s always nice to have a rising star to. So I have very mixed feelings.  I’ve been there done that. You kind of feel for the veterans because they’ve been around and worked so hard but it’s nice, and healthy, for the sport to always have newcomers. It gets people inspired and intrigued and clearly motivates those others.

I’m smart enough not to name one person in particular at this point... But I think it’s just great that USA Gymnastics is clearly on top and the girls are so consistent and look great. And from what I understand it’s a healthy environment which is positive.”
