USA Nominative Roster Released For 2015 World Championships

The International Gymnastics Federation has posted the nominative roster for the 2015 World Championships which will be held in Glasgow, Scotland October 23 through November 1. Important to note: this is a preliminary roster and the teams may change. Check out the full roster here.

The final U.S. women's team will not be announced until the World Championships Selection Camp October 6-9 but below are the gymnasts listed for USA's nominative roster. There are seven gymnasts listed but only six allowed on a team. One of the gymnasts below will likely be named the alternate.

Aly Raisman
MyKayla Skinner
Maggie Nichols
Gabby Douglas
Simone Biles
Madison Kocian
Brenna Dowell

Leading the team is back to back World All-Around Champion Biles who has not lost an all-around competition since before the 2013 P&G Championships. She will clearly be a leader for team USA and is the favorite to earn the all-around title.

Other veterans on the list include Raisman and Douglas, both members of the 2012 gold-medal winning Olympic team. After taking time off after the Olympics, the duo returned to competition earlier this year at the 2015 City of Jesolo Trophy. They've continued to show improvements and upgrades as the season progresses and it is no surprise they were named to the early roster.

Skinner and Kocian were both on the 2014 World Championships team that took gold. Skinner adds difficult routines, especially on vault and floor. Skinner and Biles are the only two from USA who could make vault event finals, as they are the only gymnasts who compete two different vaults. Kocian adds a stellar bar routine that could earn her a spot on the podium.

After missing out on the World selection camp last year due to an injury, Nichols came back strong this year with numerous upgrades. Most recently, she placed second all-around to Biles at this year's P&G Championships.

Dowell returned to elite after a solid year in NCAA gymnastics competing for the University of Oklahoma. Dowell may be the most surprising name on this early roster as she did not have stellar elite competitions this summer. However, she must be showing improvements and potential and a strong performance at the selection camp next month could make her a lock for the team.

Gymnasts who are on the World Championships training squad but not listed on the nominative roster are: Alyssa Baumann, Nia Dennis, Madison Desch, Rachel Gowey, Amelia Hundley, Bailie Key, Ashton Locklear, and Kyla Ross.

Most noticably missing from the nominative roster are Ross and Key.

Ross was on the 2012 Olympic team and the 2013 and 2014 World Championships teams. As an individual, she earned second all-around at 2013 Worlds and third all-around at 2014 Worlds. However, she has been struggling recently and only placed 10th all-around at this year's P&G Championships.

Key is a first year senior and placed fourth all-around at this year's P&G Championships. In her senior international debut at the Jesolo Trophy in March, Key placed second all-around to Biles. While she is a stellar all-around gymnast, she does not have a single outstanding event. With the depth of team USA, this factor could be why she is not on the early roster.

Baumann was on the 2014 World Championship team and placed seventh all-around at this year's P&G Championships. Desch was the alternate for the 2014 World championships team but did not compete both days at this year's P&G Championships.
