Rebeca Andrade Ruptures ACL, Out For Eight Months
Rebeca Andrade, first year senior for Brazil, reportedly ruptured her right ACL and is out of competition for the rest of the year. Andrade has returned to Sao Paolo for surgery.

Andrade is one of Brazil’s strongest gymnasts with some of the highest scoring potential. Last season she competed at the WOGA Classic where she won all-around, vault, and bars, and earned silver on beam and floor. She was selected to represent Brazil at the 2014 Youth Olympics but withdrew due to a broken toe. There was hype around her senior debut but unfortunately she will be out the rest of the 2015 season.

With this injury, Andrade is predicted to be out of training for six months and competition for eight months, according to Globo Esporte. This gives her just a few months to prepare for the Rio Olympics. This not only affects her potential to perform at the Olympics but also affects Brazil’s chances of qualifying as a team. For the 2012 Olympics, Brazil was the 12th and final country to qualify a full team to the Olympics. In the team qualification, they ended up placing last. They will be looking to improve on their performance, especially considering they will be the host country for the 2016 Olympics.
