Australian National Team member Lauren Mitchell has withdrawn from the upcoming 2015 World Universiade due to a serious knee injury that occured during a training session yesterday (June 29th), according to Gymnastics Australia. Furthermore, AU News reported that the 23-year-old was working on her floor routine when she sustained a ruptured ACL. Mitchell had been suffering from ankle problems and just recently committed to training for her third Olympics in Rio.

The Australian women’s team was set to depart today for the Summer Universiade to be held in Gwangju Korea from July 3-14. The other members include Georgia-Rose Brown, Emma Nedov and Mary-Anne Monckton, along with coach Tracey Penaluna.

Mitchell already has a long list of accomplishments from her successful career, as the 2010 World Champion on floor and 2009 World Championships silver medalist on beam and floor. She is the first female Australian gymnast to ever win a gold at Worlds.

Mitchell is currently working with her coaches and medical personnel to confirm the extent of the injury and determine how to move forward.
