Aki Hummel Returns To Utah Gymnastics Staff
Press release via Utah Athletics:

Aki Hummel
, a Utah assistant gymnastics coach from 1993-2005, has rejoined the staff as a volunteer assistant coach, co-head coaches Tom Farden and Megan Marsden announced today.

Hummel's primary duty will be assisting with the uneven bars--an event where he coached Ute NCAA champions Sandy Woolsey in 1994 and Angie Leonard in 1999.

"Aki Hummel has a reputation as one of the best bar coaches in the country and we're delighted he was interested in coming back as a volunteer assistant coach," said Farden. "In the years he has been in private business, Aki has remained close to our program and the sport of gymnastics. With the addition of Aki and assistant coach Meredith Paulicivic, Megan (Marsden) and I feel like we've assembled one of the finest coaching staffs in the country."

Hummel was the 1997 and 1998 NCAA Region Assistant Coach of the Year, and in his 13 years on the staff, Utah gymnasts earned 29 All-America awards on bars.

He retired in April of 2005 to enter private business and is the owner of two Massage Envy franchises in the Salt Lake valley.

"I've kept my hand in gymnastics by consulting for some local clubs," said Hummel, adding, "I have a special connection to Utah gymnastics and wanted to give back to the program I love."
