Robert Ladanyi Named University Of Denver Assistant Coach

Robert Ladanyi
has been named the University of Denver assistant coach. Ladanyi spent the last 10 seasons as the assistant coach for the University of Florida. This announcement comes days after Florida named Jenny Rowland their new head coach following the departure of Rhonda Faehn. Faehn lead the Gators to three consecutive national titles but resigned from Florida to take a job with USA Gymnastics.

Ladanyi was also a key part of Florida's immense success. Ladanyi's main role at Florida was the head bars coach. For the 2015 regular season, Florida was tied for first as a team on bars with a 49.5 RQS. Junior Bridget Sloan placed second on bars at NCAAs after scoring two perfect 10s on bars this season.

Press release via Denver Athletics:

Robert Ladanyi, former University of Florida assistant coach, will be the next University of Denver women's gymnastics assistant coach, head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart announced Monday.

"We're very excited to welcome Robert to our University of Denver family," Kutcher-Rinehart said. "He has the coaching expertise, and brings a wealth of competitive and championship knowledge and experience. He fits into our philosophy of teamwork, character and excellence."

"I am very excited to join the DU family," Ladanyi said. "I can't wait to help the gymnastics program continue on its rise to success."

Ladanyi is coming off back-to-back-to-back NCAA National Championships with the University of Florida after spending the last 10 years with the Gators. During his time in Gainesville, he most recently coached the team on bars and in conditioning, but has also coached the Gators on vault and floor.

With Ladanyi as bars coach, Florida gymnasts won NCAA individual national titles on the event in 2013 (Alaina Johnson) and 2014 (Bridget Sloan). Two UF gymnasts also scored perfect 10.0s on bars under Ladanyi's coaching. The Gators finished 2015 ranked No. 1 in the nation on bars and spent every week but one inside the top three.

In 2011, 2013 and 2015, Ladanyi was named the Southeast Region Co-Assistant Coach of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches for Women (NACGC/W).

Before joining the staff at Florida, Ladanyi coached at the Mihaiuc Gymnastics Academy in Webster, Texas (2002-05); at the Academy of Gymnastics and Dance in Las Vegas (2001-02); and at S.G. Amsicora in Cagliari, Italy (1997-2001). He also coached the Romanian Junior National Team from 1994-97 at CSM in Baia Mare, Romania.

Ladanyi was an accomplished gymnast himself, training with the Romanian National Team before retiring due to injury at 19. He holds a degree in International High Level Gymnastics from the Romanian National School of Coaching.

He has two children, daughters Gabriella (10) and Laila (6).

Ladanyi will begin coaching with the Pioneers on July 1, taking over for former DU assistant coach Carl Leland, who announced his retirement in April.
